![]() With that out of the way, let's see how it all works then!Īt the heart of a checksum is the software algorithm that's used to create the codes we saw. When it comes to checksums, that's the whole point of the system: any changes to an original data source, no matter how small they are, should result in a wholly new checksum, and making it extremely easy to see if something has been altered. That change of just one letter has once again given us another unique code. So let's see what happens when we change just one letter in the whole thing: see if you can spot which one!Ĭue the drum roll in the background, as we look at the checksum for this barely altered file.ħ90DD6BF0733981E4EBF9BA116970D943D91C2CDD3531CF877E30F3E92F29453 Same data, different order, totally new checksum.īut perhaps that should have been expected after all, the changes to the file weren't entirely trivial. Notice how it's the same length – this is a key aspect of the process of getting the code – but it's entirely an different checksum. The image above clearly shows that it's still the same text, and so technically the same data, but the sequence of the bits is now different. However, it is supposed to be specific to that particular file, so now let's alter the original text file by rearranging some of the words. We can't reverse 'hack' it to figure out what the pattern of the ones and zeroes that the text file consisted of. ![]() Let's have a look at some examples, the first of which is a simple text file (below), containing some critical information! All files contain data that cover more than just than, say, the text we can see – there will be bits allocated to telling us what type of file it is, how the data is arranged, and so on.Īll of this gets handled in the process of creating the checksum, and we'll show you how it works and how you can do it yourself later in this article.īut for now, let's have a look at the value we get:ħ98B38084999FA50E7D1861E07E45F4E3AA39668DC6A12A84A058CAAA32DE0EBīy itself, that code doesn't tell us anything. Meaning that the chances of some other data giving exactly the same checksum is extremely unlikely. The important bits to know: a checksum is typically much smaller than the data source, and it's also almost entirely unique. TL DR: A checksum is a number, in the form of a binary or hexadecimal value, that's been derived from a data source. Welcome to the world of checksums! Just what the heck is a checksum? If only there was a quick way to see if that the item you've just downloaded is exactly the same as the file that was on the website. So you go ahead, get the file, and disaster! It doesn't seem to be the same as what you expecting. It doesn't seem to have anything to do how big the file is or whether it's something that you should make a note of. You're about to click on a download button and notice a weird looking code next to it. You know, I will never know the trauma of feeling like I’m not born in the right body. A recent quote from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez highlighted this well: “I am a cisgendered woman. This is another important aspect of the concept of privilege. Yet pretty much everyone can find some personal privilege that they can acknowledge. Women orthopaedic colleagues of color have both the disadvantage of gender and race or ethnicity. Orthopaedic colleagues of color who are men would have advantages arising from the privilege of being a man and disadvantages related to race. I can speak out against a situation with emotion and know that my emotions will not be perceived to be related to my gender. I thought about my own knapsack as a white orthopaedic surgeon (ignoring my gender for the moment) and found some items to share: I found this metaphor helpful as I contemplated the concept of privilege. White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks”. McIntosh explored the concept of privilege and described how she saw it “as an invisible package of unearned assets that I can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was ‘meant’ to remain oblivious. ![]() Rather, privilege is “a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group”. But having privilege does not mean one is protected from adversity. I believe most of us don’t think of ourselves as privileged since we all experience challenges. Racism and sexism are concepts most of us understand. ![]() Let’s adopt a spirit of curiosity and seek to gain some understanding of this powerful, hidden force of privilege that impacts every one of us as surgeons and each of our patients. Peggy McIntosh writes: “I think whites are carefully taught not to recognize white privilege”. As American feminist, activist, and scholar Dr. I may believe that no one gave me anything in life, but the reality is far different. I worked hard to get to where I am today. I also feel defensive when I hear “white privilege.” It is not my fault that I was born white. ![]() ![]() Hogg: HP 27, Mana 6, Str 4, Dx 4, Int 3, Sta 3. At least put a point in ST to be able to equip belts and some medium staffs. For using the best staff, needs you to have 5 ST and 13 INT. As you can manage your hp and mana, it´s very easy to keep the HP in the maximun before taking hearts of healing. Keep always an eye on your HP and use the skills to heal, also count how many mana carrier monsters are in the floor and have that mana on acount to heal. ![]() Also, as you go deeper, you will find weapons which chain attack or increase the number of bounces. Prioritize attacking low attack enemies so those with high attack may die before facing them. I usually unlock as many tiles as possible, as she has a wand which attack may bounce. She is a magician who felt the power of the Dungeon and headed the exploration, and for me the easyest one. Passive: Restores HP for a value of double of Mana consumed in a skill. Svafa: HP 25, mana 9, STR2, DX 4, INT 5, STA 3. Afterwards, eliminate the rest of the minions. This way, when you use the skill, you´ll be able to kill the enemies with the strongest attack getting the minimun damage possible back. My recomendation is to unlock as many tiles as possible in each floor, but remember to kill all the monsters with healing abilities as soon as they appear. So, Guy has no memory, and he wants to go to the bottom rock. Passive: Restores as much HP as the number of monsters killed in the previous floor. This can now be used to measure and optimize workflow performance over time, so that teams can identify where they can smooth out bottlenecks and achieve goals more effectively. The final feature in last week's announcement brings trend analysis to Asana's reporting tool. The library of reusable workflow templates is also expanding, with contributions from a number of Asana's enterprise customers and partners. Once an expanded developer toolkit ships in the coming months, partners and customers will also be able to add their own apps. The first integrations available at launch are with survey form builder Jotform and virtual whiteboard app Miro, while Google Drive will follow soon. Whereas most of the existing third-party app integrations connect workflow and data into the platform, these new App Components connect third-party apps directly into the Asana user experience. The second element of the announcement is the addition of new UI components to the workflow builder. The customizable dashboard is set to add more features in the coming months, such as recommending projects to follow and tracking tasks that have been assigned to colleagues. We, in software, are able to bring that to life, because we have a view on both of those pieces now. The time-tested best practice for an individual to prioritize their work is on the axis of importance and urgency. ![]() Last week's announcements introduced a new intelligent dashboard called Asana Home, which presents upcoming work in the context of projects, dependencies and goals, and uses the work graph data to help prioritize what to do next. Because we have this, we're able to democratize what was offered to only larger organizations for their most core workflows, and we're able to make it flexible and easy to use for teams, small and large, no matter where they're working - at home or in the office - and connect up all the tools that they use to do that job well. We have the power of the work graph, with lots of different views into how work actually gets done. It is able to do this because its Work Graph data model acts as the system of record for key metrics about projects, teams, workflows and company goals, coupled with an accessible but enterprise-scale workflow builder. What Asana offers is a place where people can track and manage how their own and others' work fits into all of the tasks and projects they're involved in across an organization. I think that shows that CIOs are seeing this as a real focus area in order to modernize their business. And now let's say they're involved in the vast majority. Hood says:īefore the pandemic, IT was only involved in maybe 20% of the deals that went on with Asana customers. Growing awareness of these challenges has intensified in the wake of the pandemic, and finding solutions has become a much bigger priority for IT leaders. You don't have transparency into how the work is actually coming along, and you don't know how your pieces fit into the broader scope. It's sort of a low-trust environment, where somebody does some work, people don't know that that work is done, so there's a lot of email and chat messages to say, 'Hey, is this done? Why does this not look right?'. Alex Hood, Chief Product Officer at Asana, explains:Īll these teams need to work together, but they don't have a standard method of doing it. This kind of cross-functional teamwork is where the fragmentation is greatest, with awkward hand-offs from one team to another and each team using different digital tools to do its work. This is the gap that work management vendor Asana aims to fill with a set of features announced last week called Asana Flow.Īsana sees its sweet spot in co-ordinating work that flows between different functions in an organization. We need some way of joining up all these different fragments and putting them in order. We use more and more apps but they aren't well co-ordinated we can interact more easily with co-workers yet we are separated across time and distance we can react to what's happening in real time but struggle to prioritize what's important. One of the paradoxes of today's digitally connected work is that it can lead to disruptive fragmentation. ![]() It became more important for me to get the expression right. "I was really into it!
